Reports to: Director of Marketing and Communications

Classification: 24-32 hours/week (Mon-Thurs)
Internship Length: 2-3 months
Renumeration: $18.25/hour
Location: Surrey and Vancouver (See description for details)

General Description:
Summer interns will join the communications and marketing team as we aim to take YU to the next level of visibility and communication. We are dedicated to building tools and designing systems that improve the marketing and fundraising of our charity so our incredible youth workers can be appropriately resourced as they come alongside and support youth who are falling through the cracks in our community.

As a team, we are responsible for marketing, advertising, fundraising, social media, media relations, involvement in internal and external communications, and two milestone events. As a videography intern, you will amplify the incredible work that our team of youth workers does throughout our region, every day.

You'll be joining a small, grass-roots team at one of Greater Vancouver's long-time, youth-serving nonprofits, gaining tangible skills and work experience while making real-life impact.

Job Responsibilities:

(Note: Details of the position may be tailored to align the expertise and passion of the videographer with the needs and opportunities available at the organization)


  • Video shooting, editing, and production for organizational storytelling, social media and fundraising initiatives
  • Social media involvement, with a focus on video-first platforms (Instagram Reels, YouTube, TikTok, etc.)
  • Potential support with capturing and producing event content, including promotional and recap videos
  • Collaboration on visual storytelling that reflects YU's mission and amplifies donor and community engagement
  • Photography support for events, staff, and programs
  • Assistance with other marketing and communications tasks as needed
  • Some youth work program support
  • Admin and errand support (often event-related)
  • Other duties as necessary

If the incumbent has experience in the following, then a wider variety of assignments would be available:


  • Graphic design
  • Photography
  • Digital marketing
  • Story-writing or script writing
  • Web design or content writing
  • Drone operation or advanced camera work
  • Motion graphics or animation

What must the candidate possess to thrive in this position?


  • Demonstrated experience in video shooting and editing (portfolio or sample work strongly preferred)
  • Proficiency with video editing software such as Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve, or similar
  • Experience with any/all of the following: Adobe Suite, Canva, and other digital marketing tools
  • Experience with any/all of the following in a business setting: Instagram, Tiktok, LinkedIn, Facebook and other social media platforms
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, initiative, sound judgment, integrity, reliability and are a trusted team player
  • Strong visual storytelling instincts and an eye for compelling content
  • A positive attitude
  • A teachable spirit and willingness to learn
  • Access to a vehicle is extremely helpful (The GVYU marketing team works mainly out of the East Vancouver office as well as the Surrey head office. Locations might be able to be modified depending on the intern's home base).

Criteria:
These jobs are provided thanks to a grant from the Canadian government’s summer jobs program. As such, these roles are restricted to people who are:


  • Between the ages of 15 – 30
  • A Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person on who refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act
  • Legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.
*International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they
are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents

About the work location:


  • Hybrid work model, with time split between our East Vancouver and Surrey offices. Interns should expect the majority of their work to be in office.
