Many of the youth we serve are navigating one or more challenges, such as coming from low-income families, being newcomers to Canada, experiencing mental health struggles, or having limited connection to a church. During the summer months, water-based activities provide meaningful opportunities for connection, fun, and growth.
Our Abbotsford team is seeking a reliable, safety-focused, and relationally mature individual to provide dedicated Water Safety Supervision during youth activities. This role is ideal for someone who is attentive, calm under pressure, and enjoys the outdoors.

Flowing out of the mission of Jesus, Greater Vancouver Youth Unlimited relationally engages in holistic work (physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual) with vulnerable youth in
partnership with the church and the community. We care deeply about youth as a whole person and serve youth in many ways, with the relational aspect being the most important.

General Description
This role provides supervision during water-based activities in the Fraser Valley, supporting youth workers by focusing on safety in and around the water.
The Water Safety Supervisor does not plan or lead activities, but serves as the designated safety presence, ensuring appropriate responses to risks, incidents, or emergencies.

Responsibilities include


  • Providing on-site water safety supervision during Youth Unlimited swimming and lake activities
  • Monitoring youth safety in and around the water and responding appropriately
  • Ensuring all youth meet the swim test or swim competency requirements before participating in water activities
  • Responding calmly and effectively to emergencies or near misses
  • Communicating safety concerns and ensuring compliance with Youth Unlimited safety policies
  • Modelling maturity, professionalism, and integrity

What must the candidate possess to thrive in the position?


  • Certifications: Current Bronze Cross or National Lifeguard certification
  • Strong situational awareness, sound judgment in outdoor environments, with a commitment to maintaining a safe environment
  • Calm and steady under pressure
  • Relationally mature and respectful
  • Comfortable working as part of a team
  • Strong communication skills
  • Genuine care for youth wellbeing
  • Ability to take initiative and follow through on responsibilities

Working conditions


  • Availability for two days per week (5-8 hour shifts) throughout July and August.
  • Travel time in vehicles with youth and staff to and from activity locations is paid.
  • Team-based work environment
  • Outdoor setting along Fraser Valley lakes and rivers or the ocean.
